We'd already beaten up Alamo with a Costco rate plus an additional discount and our Malibu seemed to be fine. However, when we arrived at our hotel Wednesday night we discovered the door lock/trunk remote on the keychain didn't work.
Not a big deal but we happened to be driving by the airport on our way to some modest sightseeing yesterday and dropped in to Alamo to see if they could insert a new battery. It turns out that some previous renter had probably taken the key into the pool or the ocean, something the staff told us is a common problem in Hawaii. Who'd have known?
A supervisor came along and, rather than offering us another plain-Jane car, invited us to to pick out a convertible in return for the inconvenience. Here we are looking special.
