The hero of Jules Verne's Around The World in Eighty Days says at one point, in reply to a character worrying about unforeseen circumstances, "The unforeseen does not exist." Of course, the comment is full of irony and humor, since Fogg's trip around the world consisted completely of unforeseen circumstances.
As for us, we arrived at SEA this morning at an early hour, only to be told that our flight to SFO was delayed due to heavy rain in San Francisco. We navigated through the TSA checkpoint with little problem (thank goodness the latest round of hysteria has subsided) and arrived intact at the Red Carpet Club.
The lovely RCC agent told us that our flight might be delayed enough that we'd miss our connection to NRT. She started to check out a non-stop flight SEA-NRT and then stopped short. "Oh, you're already protected" she said. Not only that, we're "protected" in C (Business) seats, particularly important to us since we're connecting in Japan to another 7 1/2 hour flight to Singapore.
At the moment, our flight is estimated to depart around 8:30 a.m., leaving us time to transfer at San Francisco, including the walk to the international terminal. So here we sit in the RCC drinking coffee and relaxing. United Airlines usually delivers great service to its 1K members, and so far this appears to be one of those times. We'll see how the day progresses.
Update: SEA-SFO is now departing at 8:25 a.m., putting us in SFO at 10:30, and giving us time to catch the connecting flight to NRT. That means the lie-flat seats on a 747 rather than the older-style seats on the SEA-NRT 777. Yay!
