LAX: Restin' At The Westin

This morning's LHR-LAX flight on UA was terrific, even though it was a Boeing 777 with the old configuration rather than the flat-bed seats, swapped at the last minute. Frequent flyers will soon look at photos like this one and tell youngsters how tough Business Class was in the old days. It might be hard to convince the folks back in The Village, Economy Class, of that.

The Captain kept Channel 9 on throughout the entire flight, the cabin crew was excellent, and we both caught a few hours of sleep in our "old fashioned" seats at the very back of the Business cabin.

We again zipped through Immigration and Customs, and caught a shuttle to the Westin after a 15-minute wait. Speaking of old fashioned, that LAX whatchamacallit we gazed at from the curb doesn't look quite as impressive as it did 30 years ago. Didn't Tomorrow Land at Disneyland have a similar icon, along with its space ship ride way back when?

We have a reasonable day-rate at the Westin and we can hang out here for five hours before heading back to the airport to board at 9:30 p.m.

By the time we arrive in Darwin Australia in a few days, we'll have flown nearly 20,000 miles, so we figure we have the right to pamper ourselves a little bit.
