From The East Coast Train

We’re aboard the East Coast Train, using our 15 minutes of free Internet time to check our e-mail and write our first blog entry from a British train.

The train is hurtling along at speeds up to 126 miles per hour as we travel from Edinburgh to London, and it’s a lot quieter this Saturday than it was on our outbound trip Thursday. So far, we’ve had our forward-facing seats to ourselves, allowing us to stretch our legs out.

There was a large police presence at the train stations today, as rugby fans were traveling en masse from Edinburgh to Glasgow to attend a match between teams from each city. There were large posted signs warning that no alcohol was allowed on board trains between the two cities. Those trains are probably livelier than ours.

We’re due to arrive at Kings Cross at 5:46 p.m., a little less than an hour from now. From there we Tube out to LHR and ready ourselves for a bit of flying tomorrow.

  1. Avery wants you to slam yourself into the brick wall at platform 9 3/4 when you're at Kings Cross.
