We board Amtrak's Coast Starlight with Tom and Ellyn in Seattle Saturday morning and ride it all the way to Los Angeles. On our April Amtrak expedition we had to get off in Sacramento at an ungodly early-morning hour to await the California Zephyr to Chicago.
This time we have a slightly awkward overnight in Los Angeles before boarding the Southwest Chief the following evening for a relatively short overnight ride to Albuquerque.
From there we pick up a rental car and wend our way back home over the following two weeks. We're looking forward to the road trip as much as we are to the train ride.
