We bought ourselves a 24-hour Innsbruck Card and rode the Hungerburg funicular (almost a cog railway) from its downtown station (560 meters above sea level) up to Hungerburg (860 meters). There we transferred to a cable gondola still being used by skiers and snowboarders and rode up to Station Seegrube (1905 meters). We then transferred to one final gondola that took us up to Hafelekar (2256 meters). Even in slightly cloudy weather - and snowing on top - the view was spectacular.
And as we look our hotel room window on this sunny Friday morning, the view is truly spectacular. We don't even need to ride a gondola to enjoy it.
