We're staying in our third consecutive Hilton on this trip, and tomorrow we'll move to a fourth, the Danube Hilton, supposedly the least impressive of Vienna's three Hiltons.
Hilton ran a great "Any Weekend Anywhere" sale in January and Kathy scooped up some excellent prices. Additionally, the sale supposedly offers double stay credit on any stay of two nights or more, which will certainly help us to qualify again for elite status.
All three hotels have been excellent. The Munich City Hilton is in a great location, sitting above a major S-Bahn station, providing access both from the airport and the railway station. We greatly enjoyed the buffet breakfast. The Innsbruck Hilton, while having no lounge at present (all Hiltons are supposed to provide lounges by the end 2013, if we recall correctly), offered us a friendly welcome with a half bottle of wine, and access to another very good breakfast buffet in its restaurant.
Although some travelers favor the newer Vienna Hilton (which we'll visit toward the end of this trip), we have again enjoyed an upgrade to a "Penthouse Appartement," similar to the room we stayed in about this time last year.
The lounge is just down the corridor from us and "okay," with minimal employee presence. This morning's breakfast would have struck us as good if we hadn't been spoiled by lavish buffets over the previous three days.
The weather is looking ominous, with snow predicted for Bratislava during our visit there Monday to Wednesday, but there are plenty of indoor activities in these cities if we don't want to frolic outside.
Bonus: Directions to the Vienna Plaza Hilton via public transportation...
The U2 stop is Schottentor. Find the Hohenstaufengasse exit. That consists of stairs up to the sidewalk next to the side of the Hilton. Walk up and around the corner to the entrance. The alternative to the left of the exit is the Lichtensteinstraße exit. That includes an escalator which will deposit you a few yards farther away from the hotel but still very close and easier if you are carrying enough luggage to make stairs a nuisance.
