What a great flight we had on an Air New Zealand 777 flying Auckland to Perth in Business Class. Great attention from the flight attendants, good wine, lots of food, and, for Brian, four hours of sleep on this seven-hour flight.
The seats not only tilt into the lie-flat position from back to front, but each seat comes complete with a memory-foam topper that makes it very comfortable. It will be interesting to compare the Singapore business seats when we fly home.
We landed on a rainy night in Perth. We picked up our checked bags, went through Immigration and Customs with no problem (although strangely enough Kathy was able to use the Global Entry-type kiosk while the machine sent Brian to an inspector), and picked up an Australian SIM card for our new bogle.
Outside the terminal we found that we could catch an airport-to-hotel shuttle for $16 each so opted for that, rather than trying to take a city bus into town and then walk three block to our hotel.
The Holiday Inn welcome us royally as a "Platinum member," assigning us to a King Executive room with free Internet and some nice goodies, including two bottles of wine (one large and one half-bottle), snack items, and water.
We slept well but are up early. Perth, in Western Australia, is in a time zone four hours behind New Zealand, so it's 6:00 a.m. Tuesday here as we write this, 10:00 a.m. in Auckland, and 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at home.
What this means is that we'll get up when we've slept, we'll sleep when we're tired, and we'll yawn a lot throughout the day.
