It rained during the night but we awoke early to a sunny Monday morning at our last night's camping park.
After a quick sweep of the van and some packing up, we drove it back to Gateway, a half-hour drive, stopping only to fill up the tank with diesel. Either we traveled farther this trip or diesel is more expensive than it used to be. We spent NZ $200 in total for the 1200+ kilometers (600 miles) that we drove. Of course, in USD it's a bit cheaper at around $165. Petrol (gasoline) is over $2 a liter here so we're fortunate to have been driving a diesel-powered vehicle, with an average price of $1.45-1.55 per liter.
The congenial owner drove us to the airport, we've checked in, and we're now sitting in the large and comfortable Air New Zealand Koru Club Lounge in the international departures area.
Our flight doesn't leave for nearly 2 1/2 hours, so we'll have time to catch up on the breakfast we missed in the midst of our packing up this morning.
