Last Night In New Zealand

We spent over an hour at the fascinating Kauri Museum in Matakohe on our way back to Auckland today. We could easily have spent more time.

We're camped at a pleasant little park to the south of the city, which should give us a good shot at returning our van in good time tomorrow.

Our flight to Perth actually leaves at 2:30 p.m., so we have to be at the airport a little sooner than we had originally thought, but that shouldn't be a problem.

The traffic was quite heavy once we got on Highway 1, the main road. Eventually we arrived at the four-lane toll route, for which our rental company has its vehicles all registered. The length of the toll route is only a few kilometers, but apparently New Zealanders are willing to pay $2.25 for the privilege of driving on a controlled access motor route.

From there the route continued into Auckland and back over the big bridge. Our GPS took us on a number of twists and turns but here we are in Clark's Beach.

We plan to mark our final evening in New Zealand by going out for dinner, or at least for "take away." There are practical considerations as well as the celebratory aspect - the larder is fairly bare.
