We enjoyed a quick drive up to the airport from home, complete with a quick border crossing and efficient parking of our car at the Park and Fly lot. We were surprised to find it considerably warmer at YVR than at home not that many miles away.
We checked our big suitcase and found that our NEXUS cards get us into a quicker security line, except... it wasn't. We were behind a bunch of Lufthansa crew members - looked like a 747 crew - and we all stood in one place for quite a few minutes. There was only one station but we got the impression that the screeners were taking a long time with each item, or maybe it was the large family group that made every mistake possible. Finally, the line started to move.
On the other hand, going through the metal detector was a breeze with our shoes on and friendly CATSA screener telling us that we could fill our empty water bottles for free at Starbucks. We've filled them in the Maple Leaf Lounge but it's the thought that counts.
Our flight doesn't board for nearly two hours so we have time to relax and get ready for our first flight #854 to LHR.
After well over a million miles of flying to a bunch of different places over the past dozen years, we have to admit it: We're kinda excited.
