Hong Kong: Saturday Lunch

To cool off and frankly salvage our Saturday after that unnecessary ride over to Cheung Chau Island, we looked for an air-conditioned restaurant in the big mall near the ferry terminal.

Trip Advisor showed us the way to one popular spot in the basement, but it was too crowded; in fact, it was impossible to get close enough to get on the waiting list.

We wandered and researched some more, and eventually found our way to the mall branch of Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, a chain with branches in a number of countries..

Yes, Xiao Long Bao - Soup Dumplings! Once in, we didn't waste time in ordering two baskets of those, along with some green beans and spicy pork (delicious), prawns in a sauce (so-so) and spicy beef soup (too spicy for us to handle).

It's not that far away from the Conrad, where we'll be moving tomorrow, and it was just good enough that we are tempted to return - but no spicy soup next time.

Yes, that soup dumpling is out of focus, but we still want the chance to gaze at it.
The beans and pork were pleasantly spicy and delicious.
The soup looked great, the beef and noodles tasted good, but the broth was too hot to handle and we ate very little.
As we left, we could see through a window out in the mall the cooks hard at work assembling dumplings. We almost wanted to applaud.

On the bus ride back to the hotel, we came across yet another interesting sign.

How much less than a 50% discount?
