It was more pleasant than fun to walk in from the ship and wander around the part of Funchal that's near the cruise port, but we couldn't resist the title.
We don't know the last time we docked here but we recognized the old market and the more modern shopping center where we replenished our inventory of wine. For some strange reason on the island of Madeira, it's hard to find a wine that is not Madeira. It's one of the few times we can recall walking into a store and buying the most expensive wines in stock. Portugal isn't noted for its reds, and we'll hope the 10-Euro bottles we bought match the Spanish and Italian wines we've been consuming so far.
We had to zig on the dock and zag back along the promenade. It would have been a lot quicker if we could walk on water.
As we entered the dock area on the way back to Riviera we spotted an interesting sign. We don't know Portuguese and it appears to us as if dejected animals are not allowed.
