This is the longest time we've gone without flying that we can remember since we retired in 2001. It's hard to believe our most recent flight was a domestic hop February 7 from Milwaukee to Chicago to Seattle. We'll make up for that starting tomorrow night with our second trip on Air Canada's ultra long-haul flight from Vancouver to Sydney. At just over 7500 miles and 15 hr. 40 min. in length, it's number 23 on the list of 30 longest non-stop commercial flights.
On the first seven of our previous eight trips to Australia we've flown United and connected in Los Angeles or San Francisco to fly onward to Sydney or Melbourne (on a third flight). Last year we flew onward to New Zealand, so this should be a breeze in comparison.
We've enjoyed our previous flights in AC Executive Class, a definite step up from United (like every other business class product we've flown). Kathy does look comfortable on last year's flight, doesn't she?
As for the over-the-water return, this will be our second time flying EVA Air, and we loved our first experience, despite the hot cabin, slightly narrow flat-beds, and the turbulence.
Our itinerary looks like this:
May 19 Board AC 33 at YVR (11:40 p.m.)
May 21 Arrive Sydney (8:15 a.m.)
May 23 Sydney to Alice Springs Qantas (QF) 790
May 23-26 Our eighth consecutive year of attendance at Oz Fest
May 26 Ayers Rock (AYQ) to Alice Springs (ASP) to Adelaide (ADL) on QF 1940/722
May 29 ADL-SIN on Singapore Airlines (SQ) 278, SIN-SGN on SQ 186
May 29-June1 Sightseeing in and around Ho Chi Minh City
June 1 SGN-HAN on Vietnam Airlines 240
June 1-6 Sightseeing in Hanoi and two-night Halong Bay cruise
June 6 HAN-SGN on Vietnam Airlines 253
June 7 SGN-TPE on Eva Air 392, connecting to Eva Air 2 to LAX, connecting to AC 1885 to YVR, arriving at 10:01 p.m.
