Our Walk on the Rock of Gibraltar

Flashback to Monday, April13...

We're proud of ourselves (some might say "smug") for covering a lot of ground today while docked in Gibraltar. We've seen The Rock a couple of times on transatlantic cruises but this time we wanted to get up close. We did.

We walked from Riviera all the way into town and along Main Street until we arrived at the tram terminal (probably 2-3 miles in total). We took the gondola up to the top and then sightsaw all the way down.

We saw plenty of cute Barbary macaques, the only wild monkey population on the European continent, making us feel like we were back in South Africa or India.

We walked through the spectacular St. Michael's Cave, near the top, enjoying the sights despiteall  the paving and the sometimes over-the-top lighting effects.

We visited the Great Siege Tunnels, the Moorish Castle, the World War II tunnels, and enjoyed the views along the way.

We left the ship shortly after 9:00 a.m. and returned a bit after 2:30 p.m. We sat down a couple of times for a total of perhaps five minutes.

Good to know we still have it in us!
