Viti Levu Island, Fiji: Up the Navua River

Our resort sits in an area called Pacific Harbour, about a 90-minute ride from Nadi (pronounced Nandi), and very close to Suva, the capital of Fiji.

We are at the southern end of the island of Viti Levu, the largest island in Fiji's archipelago of more than 300 islands, and home to about 60% of the country's population.

Along with tourism, major industries include sugar cane production and a thriving dairy industry.

Yesterday we enjoyed a full-day tour centered around a long-boat ride up and down a section of the Navua River.

We traversed some very mild "rapids" in our three-boat flotilla, swam briefly in chilly water near a picturesque waterfall, clambered onto a bamboo raft for a short float around a couple of bends, and finish up at a local village with a Lovo-based lunch, interesting demonstrations of various crafts, and some charming entertainment.

Another great day in this friendliest of countries...
