An amazingly varied landscape as we drove toward Hawaii Volcanoes National Park yesterday, from sea level to over 4000 feet. At times it looked like Northern California, Colorado, and, yes, tropical Hawaii. The Daniel K. Inouye Highway is magnificent. It was fascinating to see a number of straight stretches on that as well as Highway 11, our return route.
And some roadwork with mammoth machines along the way...
