LAX Layover

After a fine flight on AA #72 SYD-LAX (now among our very favorite business class products), we zipped through immigration and customs formalities, strolled from terminal 4 to 6, and went through TSA PreCheck effortlessly.

We're now relaxing in the Alaska Lounge, surprisingly small but not too crowded today.

Our next flight is 11:15 so we have much of the morning in here.

Aboard AA 72: SYD-LAX 777

Great Business Class seats on American Airlines...

Sydney: SYD Qantas Business Lounge

We zipped through security, despite Brian's second random explosive screening in as many days.

Fairly dismal offerings in the lounge - muffins or croissants, unless we're missing something.

Update: Silly us... We missed the space next door.

Qantas Economy Class BNE-SYD

Quite impressive. One hour ten minutes airborne and we get a choice of meals and two rounds of the beverage of our choice (wine for us) on a newish 737-800.

Impressive IFE too...

Okay, not much legroom in Row19...

Two mini-bottles of wine were a compensation.

Our checked rollaboards came out quickly and we caught the bus to the international terminal.

We walked across to check in at Rydges. Because we're members of the program, they upgraded us to a mini-suite.

They also offered us one free drink, a $35  food / drink credit, and 20% off food.

We'd be fools not to have something.

Tomorrow we across to the terminal, and before we know it we'll be en route to LAX on American, and from there onward  to Seattle and Bellingham.

NTL: Newcastle, NSW Australia Airport

It also is used as a military field (RAAF Base Williamtown) and turns out to be a modern and pleasant facility.

We're flying Qantas NTL-BNE-SYD (Newcastle to Brisbane to Sydney).

Hard to Overlook in Newcastle

Walking along the beautiful waterfront near the Crowne Plaza, we couldn't help but notice all 958 feet of the Maka Franz, a bulk carrier, being escorted into port by four massive tugs.

Williamtown, Australia: Fighter World

Our friend Bill was an able guide.

Plane spotting at the next-door airport, NTL (Newcastle), which doubles as a military field.

Oz Fest Hunter Valley Wine Tour

A busy day included a 40-minute drive from Newcastle to Hunter Valley and back, tasting visits to three wineries, and a pizza lunch.
