Blaine, Washington: Stalking the Elusive Crab

We dig out our crab gear after many years, bought licenses, and took three of our grandchildren crabbing at the Blaine city wharf. We have a couple of traps and a ring (below). Our first pull looked impressive, unless you're aware that crabs have to be of a certain size and sex (male) to be kept.

Blane is rightfully proud to hold on to the one "keeper" of our two-day blitz, a red rock crab.

It made for a good appetizer...

What glorious weather to hang around on a wharf, contemplating the world and every so often pulling up the rings and traps (pots). Yes, hope does spring eternal in the human breast, Mr. Pope.
