In Rio: From Marina to GIG

It’s a quiet holiday weekend and Leandro, our friendly driver from Rio Taxi and Transfer Company, is waiting for us as we exit.

He gets us to the airport in about 25 minutes, but we realize the trip could take longer.

He points out places of interest, including a distant favela (slum neighborhood) of about 3 1/2 million people.

Before long, we’re entering the airport.

Leandro finds a luggage cart and escorts us to the Copa counter, expediting the process in Portuguese with the check-in agent.

A slight stop at security when some lotion in Tom’s carry-on bag arouses their interest.

Before long, we get some relaxation time in a surprisingly attractive Star Alliance lounge.
