Built in 2015, Smeralda was, as of its 2019 launching, the world’s sixth largest cruise ship.
It’s just over 1100 feet long, holds a maximum capacity of 6,554 passengers (5,224 double occupancy), and carries 1,646 crew members.
In contrast, Oceania’s Marina, launched in 2012, is 783 feet long, holds a maximum of 1,250 passengers (double occupancy), and carries 780 crew members.
Size isn’t everything. We’ve cruised on some fairly large ships, although none as big as Smeralda, and suffice it to say we’re quite happy where we are.
The big ships certainly look impressive though.
