Our first stop of the day is the breakfast buffet at Suku. It proves to be as impressive as people suggest.
Kathy even finds a soup station.
Next it’s time for a walk around the grounds, where we spot the on-site wedding chapel and a nearby bride and groom posing for photos. Weddings are big business in paradise.
We walk along the beach and gaze out at the Indian Ocean.
Soon after we notice those palm trees blowing in the breeze, our walk is interrupted by wind and light rain, leading us to retreat to our suite. We still have sleep to catch up on. A nap is in order.
Later we wander over to happy hour and sit outside on the impressive lobby terrace overlooking a pool and the beach.
It’s time for dinner and we take an elevator downstairs to Suku, where we sit outside on a mild evening, now enjoying a ground-level view of the pool.
It starts to rain lightly, but we’re under cover and it soon stops. The koi in the nearby pool swim on.
Dinner is excellent. Our server delivers crackers and -guess what - three tasty varieties of sambal to try.
The pattern in the table runner seems very Indonesian.
We share a shredded chicken main as an appetizer.
Kathy chooses a crispy duck dish, lean and delicious.
Brian’s chicken saté arrives on a miniature wood-burning hibachi-type device, keeping the skewers warm. It’s a tasty dish, especially with the peanut sauce. We enjoy trading bites. A glass of Chilean syrah is a pleasing accompaniment.
As we walk back to our room with full tummies, we admire views like this one.
Monday we’ve scheduled a private tour to Ubud with Suka, the friendly driver who transferred us from the airport to the hotel. He’s a careful driver and his English is good.
As of 6:30 AM Monday the rain is pouring down as it has been for some time. We’ll just have to hope it tapers off by 9 AM.
